Last week, the team at Sanlorenzo launched the first 57Steel yacht from their boatyard near the coast of La Spezia, Italy, marking the proper debut of the 57-meter (187-foot) vessel that has been eagerly anticipated. This new offering from the Italian boat builder expands its range by filling the gap between its slightly shorter 52Steel series and the 62Steel models, while offering an exciting new layout thanks to the work of the design team at Zuccon International Project.
As its name suggests the 57Steel boasts a steel superstructure, which contains an innovative interior design that has been optimised for owner enjoyment, without sacrificing elements that made the 52 Steel series so popular. These include the float-in garage for the tender, as well as the beach club with the glass pool above it.
The most significant departure from a traditional yacht layout is the relocation of the wheelhouse from the upper deck down to the bridge deck, which allows for more space on the upper deck to be dedicated to the owner’s suite and deck. In addition to this reorganisation of the control centre of the yacht, it also allows for a full-beam VIP cabin to exist at the forward end of the main deck.

“The 57 Steel is an ambitious project behind which there has been an intense amount of typological research, a very important study which has always been at the basis of the research that Zuccon International Project has been conducting with passion since the beginning of its collaboration with Sanlorenzo,” explained the designer of the vessel, Bernardo Zuccon.
“The aim was to create a craft of around 1050 GT with functional and lifestyle contents that are normally found on boats of larger sizes. From a design point of view, the most important challenge was to find the right balance between the volumes and proportions of the boat. There is no ostentation of the brand, and the external lines have a defined and extremely fluid, transparent and lucid progression in which the yard’s language shines through.”
With a total capacity of seven guest cabins that can accommodate up to 12 guests, the Sanlorenzo 57Steel also has quarters for a further 12 crew. Powered by twin CAT 3512 C engines, the 57Steel has a respectable top speed of 16 knots.
