After first making waves with its sleekly designed and heart-racingly powerful Luna electric motorbikes, the team at Brooklyn-based Tarform have released concept images for another electrically powered winner in the Raye jetski, which expands the automaker’s offering to the waters. Taking stylistic inspiration from the graceful curves of the manta ray, which has evolved over 120 million years into one of the ocean’s most unique lifeforms, the Tarform Raye jetski aims to offer owners the experience of riding a motorcycle on the open water.
Featuring a jet propulsion system that promises a top speed of 80km/h, the Raye will be available in two different configurations depending on how long you might want to ride for. There will be a 52.2kW model allowing an hour on the water between charges and an 89.5kW version with two hours of ride time.
“The intention is to create a lightweight watercraft that would provide the feeling of riding an electric motorcycle on the water, combining high performance and superb handling,” explains Tarform in a statement. “Translating the experience of an electric motorcycle onto the water was the most natural extension to our vehicle lineup. The Tarform Raye is an electric jet ski that combines biomorphic design, plant-based materials, and modular technology.”
While the jetski remains in concept form and Tarform hasn’t confirmed a release date yet, prices are expected to start from US$68,000 (AU$103,374).
