The thought of stumbling across an exotic car in an old barn used to be the stuff of dreams. From dusty Lamborghini Miuras to entire Ferrari back catalogues, some lucky foragers have uncovered some absolute unicorns over the years. But with the pandemic putting more eyes on the classic car market and too much free time to fossick, it seemed as though those days were officially over. That was, of course, until this following 1962 Aston Martin DB4 barn find popped up on eBay.
As the story goes, the vintage ride was held by a body shop owner in New York, who asked one of his panel beaters to repair the DB4 in his spare time. The panel beater worked on it for a few weeks at his boss’ house; and once the repairs were complete, his boss then gifted him the Aston Martin (umm…. what?).

The DB4 was towed to the panel beater’s house, where he planned to give it a complete overhaul, but like most project cars, he just never got around to it. Prior to its discovery and subsequent listing on eBay at a price of around US$325,000 (AU$470,000), the Aston had been collecting dust for over 30 years.
This grand tourer was the predecessor for the more lauded DB5 and was responsible for a resurrection of sorts at Aston Martin. The lightweight, tube-frame body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan and was the first Aston built at the company’s Newport Pagnell factory in England.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.7-litre double overhead cam straight-6, designed by Polish racing driver Tadek Marek, and was widely regarded as one of the performance engines of its time. In fact, the DB4 was the first production car to do 0-100 mph and back to 0 in under 30 seconds.
The 1962 Aston Martin DB4 barn find has matching numbers and features blue paint with a red leather interior. Let the offers begin.
