- The Alpina B8 GT is likely the last of its kind as the Alpina lineup will be discontinued after December 31st 2025, arriving as a limited edition of 99 units.
- Created in tribute to Burkard Bovensiepen, Alpina’s founder, the new B8 GT is based on the four-door BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe.
- Powering this swansong launch is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, capable of putting out top speeds of 330 km/h with a sprint time of 3.3 seconds.
As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. And so it is: per the news that famed automotive tuner Alpina will be fully acquired by BMW by the end of 2025.
To celebrate the name that has become so loved by car cognoscenti, Alpina’s is releasing the B8 GT: a limited edition of just 99 units which pays tribute to Alpina founder Burkard Bovensiepen.
Likely the final car to be released with solo Alpina badging, no detail of the B8 GT has been overlooked. Based on the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, it blends form and function with a sleek low-key exterior, while the bonnet conceals a throaty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 delivering 625bhp and 627 lb ft of torque.
All that power translates to a top speed of 330 km/h and sprint time of 3.3 seconds, the latter of which is achieving using specially adapted software in car’s ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
The former, on the other hand, is made possible by two new air-boxes; more pressure for the turbo boost; and a de-throttled air intake, all of which combine for some seriously impressive power beneath your pedal.
On the exterior, there have also been a few adjustments. These include a more aggressive carbon diffuser, air intakes in the front grille, and 21-inch wheels forged by Alpina itself. Of the 99 that will roll off the production line, 20 will get the option for two-tone “Black Sapphire” paint contrasted with Alpina Blue or Alpina Green, while the other 79 units are offered in seven different colour options.
In an interesting twist, for gear heads who are equally passionate about watches, you’ll be delighted to hear every B8 GT purchaser will receive a special edition Carl F. Bucherer flyback chronograph. Measuring 43mm in diameter, it’s got a handsome blue dial with the Alpina logo at 6 o’clock, as well as a winding mass on the watch’s caseback, evoking the shape of a break caliper.
Priced at €225,000 (~AU$373,390), the Alpina B8 GT is certainly one of the most expensive BMW-affiliated four-doors in recent years. However, considering what Alpina means to car lovers, we won’t be surprised if these are all already spoken for.
