It’s not every day that the car of an undeniable motorsports icon surfaces for sale. But that’s precisely the case with this red 1991 Honda NSX previously owned by the one and only Ayrton Senna.
According to the listing on Auto Trader, current owner Rober McFagan is seeking £500,000 (AU$954,000) for the NSX which, for reference, is around five times the price of a regular NSX without Senna provenance.
With less than 65,000 kilometres on the dash, it was originally gifted to the three-time Formula 1 champion by Honda — McLaren Racing’s engine partner at the time; and an integral component of the legendary MP4/4 (one of the most successful cars in F1 history).
Aside from the video in which Ayrton Senna hypnotically demonstrates how to drive it properly (see: above), this very car has also been featured in the documentary Racing is in My Blood, which celebrates the Brazilian motorsport talent’s illustrious career.
Senna’s 1991 Honda NSX has been meticulously maintained by McFagan, who acquired it back in 2013 during a visit to Algarve, Portugal, and has since gone to huge lengths in order to preserve its historical and functional integrity.
Interestingly enough, Senna proved instrumental in the development of the NSX. His racing insights essentially shaped the vehicle’s design to enhance its performance and handling, which were paired with Honda’s powerful 3.0-litre V6 engine capable of delivering 201kW/284Nm.
Originally capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in approximately 5.8 seconds, this 1991 Honda NSX is more than just a collector’s item — it’s a testament to Senna’s enduring impact on both Formula 1, beyond the 41 grands prix victories and trio of world titles, and automotive engineering as a whole.
Prospective buyers will have the unique opportunity to view this coveted piece of memorabilia at Silverstone’s Senna exhibition, scheduled to be hosted later this year from August 23rd to August 25th.
