Everyone knows la dolce vita is better appreciated from the seat of a convertible, which is exactly why Italy’s most famous automaker has announced the debut of the Ferrari Roma Spider with a drop-top roof. Perfect for enjoying the snaking drive from Sorrento to Amalfi, wind in your hair and ears filled with the operatic notes of Andrea Bocelli.
While the original Ferrari Roma Spider is a breathtaking work of design – unsurprisingly inspired by the visually dominating Prancing Horse shapes of the 50s and 60s – there’s something about the subtly reworked form of this latest edition that just feels natural. The rear of the supercar has been adjusted to accommodate the folding roof (which can be erected in just 13.5 seconds), giving it a coiled appearance as though it’s ready to pounce.

Interestingly, it’s the first time since the Ferrari 365 GTS4 of 1969 that the automaker has used a fabric roof in a front-engined car, but the wait has been worth it. Much of the rest of the Roma Spider has been left unchanged from the original format, including the twin cockpit-like interior with its large central console.
Beneath the bonnet of the Ferrari Roma Spider convertible is the same 3.9-litre V8 turbo that provides 612bhp at your disposal, translating to a 3.4-second 0-100 sprint time and a life-affirming top speed of 320km/h. Which is what it’s all about, at the end of the day.
