While your everyday Land Rover Defender is the perfect vehicle for school drop-offs and the odd weekend camping trip, it won’t stand up to small arms fire or a detonating grenade if you so happen to find yourself in such a bind. That’s where the team at Inkas come in, who’ve just announced their latest generation bulletproof Land Rover Defender which is more specifically designed for warzones than it is for leafy suburbs.

As a vehicle that would look right at home in a James Bond film, Inkas’ latest bulletproof ride is the result of decades of expertise in creating near-impenetrable cars, with the Canadian-based security firm enjoying everyone from the US Army and the United Nations as its clients.

Carefully created to be indistinguishable from the OEM model from the outside, the interior of the Inkas Land Rover Defender features 360º perimeter protection, military-grade ballistic glass, and run-flat wheels. Meaning your odds of surviving an ambush improve significantly.

“It’s an honour to introduce the newest generation of the Land Rover Defender to Inkas’ extensive lineup of armoured luxury SUVs,” said Margarita Simkin, Co-Founder and Chairwoman of Inkas Group of Companies in a statement.

“Renowned for its high-quality workmanship, Inkas has taken great pride in seamlessly armouring the Land Rover Defender to be indistinguishable from the OEM model – a critical security measure that is essential to providing discreet protection to our VIP clients.”

Rated to a ballistic protection level of CEN 1063 BR6, it’s capable of enduring 7.62mm assault rifle rounds and even twin simultaneous X2 DM51 hand grenade blasts, all while offering the same level of luxury and power you’d expect from the standard edition Land Rover Defender. A swift getaway is still possible despite all this extra protection, thanks to the 518bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine beneath the bonnet.

So if you’re spending more time in conflict zones than school zones, the Inkas Bulletproof Land Rover is the Defender you want to ride in. Prices start from US$290,000 (AU$436,133) before tactical add-ons.
