Size isn’t always everything, but if you’re looking to move you and seven of your closest friends or family, the newly revealed Land Rover Defender 130 has exactly what you’re looking for. With a longer wheelbase than we’ve seen before, a panoramic sunroof, and an 11-speaker sound system, there’s more on offer than ever before. Literally.
The 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 arrives with more options than you can poke a stick at, including your choice of either a D300 diesel or P400 petrol engine that are both based on a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder platform, both all-wheel drive, and arrive with respective power outputs of 221kW/650Nm and 294kW/550Nm.
Each engine has a slightly different 0-100 sprint time (7.5 seconds for diesel and 6.6 seconds for petrol), which you’ll be able to enjoy the roar of from within its solidly specced out interior, complete with an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen and a cabin air purification system.
“New Defender 130 brings a new dimension of capability to our most durable and rugged family of vehicles,” explains Nick Collins, the Executive Director of Vehicle Programmes at Land Rover.
“Its spacious interior welcomes and transports up to eight people in supreme comfort, enabling unparalleled sophisticated adventuring opportunities for families, with unique design signatures to create a distinct New Defender experience.”
Other upgrades from the 90 and 110 SE editions include the keyless entry and start, 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension and a terrain response system, as well as the aforementioned eight-seat configuration of which six seats can fold down flat to create a truly cavernous interior volume.
All of this comes at some additional cost compared to the Defender 110 (a little more than $24,000) and starts from $124,150 plus on-road costs for the diesel version of the freshly revealed Land Rover Defender 130, or $131,650 for its petrol-powered sibling.
Just another example of Land Rover giving the people exactly what they want.
