We all knew the Mercedes-AMG One would be a frighteningly quick car, but not many could have predicted the record-breaking run the yet-to-be-released supercar has enjoyed – most recently at the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza race track. Last week it set a new fastest-ever lap time for the iconic circuit, eclipsing the previously quickest time by an eye-widening 11 seconds.
With AMG factory driver Maro Engel behind the wheel, the Mercedes-AMG One lowered the bar at Monza to just 1:43.902 minutes, a time that makes the Porsche 911 GT3 RS which previously held the quickest lap time of 1:55.300 minutes look positively lethargic. For a little more context on just how quick the One is, it’s only 16.4 seconds slower than the fastest lap time clocked by Sebastian Vettel during the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. Not bad at all.
This latest hot lap at Monza follows Engel’s demolition of the fastest production car lap time a the Nürburgring-Nordschleife by more than eight seconds last November, navigating the challenging 12.9 miles in just 6:35.183 minutes and removing the crown from another Porsche, this time a 911 GT2 RS Manthey. In December, it set a new record at the Red Bull Ring in 1:26:846 minutes, showing it’s one of the fastest-ever cars to wear a licence plate.
Just 275 examples of these hand-built supercars will be built and can credit its blistering speed to the 1.6-litre V-6 F1 engine that’s coupled with no less than four additional electric motors, serving up more than 1,000 horsepower and a 0-100km/h time of 2.9 seconds, as well as a 0-200km/h time of 7 seconds. With a price tag of $4.2 million, you might even be lucky enough to spot one on Australian streets with eight examples of the supercar set to be delivered to deep-pocketed customers Down Under.
