Within the past few months there have been many new, and very powerful, SUV/Crossovers unveiled like the Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover SVAutobiography so it was only a matter of time before Mercedes-Benz AMG threw their hat into the ring. Over the last year Mercedes has been busy facelifting and renaming their model range, and the last model line to get that treatment is the GL class. Renamed GLS, the S is added to signify that it is the biggest in the line, this model builds on an already successful model line. There are many different models you can choose with the GLS class. The sensible diesel 350d, two various gasoline models the 450 and 550, and the one we’re most interested in, the 63AMG.

Looks-wise the 63AMG falls more in line to Mercedes current design. It has a completely revised front end, with new headlights, grille, and a more aggressive front splitter which on this model looks incredible in the contrasting black. The rear is mostly unchanged apart from newly designed rear lights, and features the aesthetically pleasing quad AMG exhaust pipes. Where this car really comes into it’s own however is the interior.

Mercedes has revamped the interior to better reflect its position in the brand. There is a new steering wheel, and a new massive 8 inch navigation and info display combined with a new redesigned control panel. There is much ambient lighting, and carbon fiber trim. The GLS keeps it’s seven seat layout which makes it immensely more practical than the other aforementioned “super-SUV’s’.

The GLS pumps out 577 horsepower which will definitely make daily errands a lot more quick, and fun. One of the best pieces on this car is the new multi-spoke rims that have an insanely cool effect when on the move. The prices have only be released in euros so far and the AMG is â‚¬113,500 or around $122,000 USD. Expensive, but compared to the Range Rover and Bentley the AMG is great value for money.
