It’s safe to assume the predominant type of travel we’ll actually get to experience in the coming year will be domestic. Which also means we’re all about to road trip way more than we initially intended. While you’re always welcome to rent a camper, for those of you looking to use your own ride, might we suggest the Nestbox?
Designed by Czech firm Studio 519, the Nestbox is a modular trunk extension which essentially turns any car into a camper with relatively no hassle. Constructed from plywood and capable of slotting quite nicely into the boot, the Nestbox can expand to provide all you happy campers double beds, fully fitted kitchens, and more.
“Our main goal was to achieve a similar level of comfort to a motorhome within the confines of a van,” says Richard Vodička, Head of Studio 519.
“We happily gave up the convenience of a flush toilet – which you get in a camper – in favour of more freedom when travelling.”
The Nestbox unit comes in four sizes to accommodate a range of vehicle sizes. “Camper” is the smallest version, followed by a compact “Hiker“, with “Roamer” being the largest module on hand, and “Supertramp” for the most extreme conditions. As implied by the term modular, you can customise the arrangement to suit your needs/desires/circumstances.
Features available include:
- Bed
- Cooker
- Mini-fridge
- Sink
- Camping shower attachment
And if case it wasn’t made clear enough, everything can be collapsed/tucked away in just a matter of minutes – if not seconds. Check it out below.
