- This rare Porsche Dakar children’s car was built by the UK-based Halfscale Cars and is powered by a 400-cc engine.
- Its two-tone Rothman’s livery is a hand-painted 40th-anniversary tribute to the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally-winning 953.
- This car will go up for auction at RM Sotheby’s Monterey, California, sale on August 15th, with an estimate of between US$20,000 to $30,000 (AU$30,464 to $45,696).
The history of Porsche is filled with legendary race-winning cars, but the 1984 Paris-Dakar-winning 911 Carrera 3.2 4×4 Paris Dakar (953) is one of the most loved. Not only did it inspire the current off-road-ready Porsche 911 Dakar, but also this Dakar children’s car.
With a distinctive blue and white paint job, the links between the Paris-Dakar-winning car and this replica are obvious. Instead of a 3.2-litre boxer-six engine, the children’s version built by Halfscale Cars is powered by a 400-cc engine capable of an 80km/h top speed.
The new owner (and their children) can also expect rack-and-pinion steering, hydraulic brakes, and independent wishbone suspension. The inside of the car has a removable leather steering wheel, seatbelts, and upholstered miniature bucket seats.
More than 100 hours of work have gone into this Halfscale Cars build, which is up for auction at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale on August 15th. The no reserve auction has a price guide of US$20,000-30,000 (AU$30,000-$45,000).
If you missed out on a Porsche 911 Dakar allocation, this is the next best thing.
