After handling the blockbuster sale of his 2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, 2003 Ferrari Enzo, and 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series almost two years ago – and the blockbuster sale of Seb Vettel’s own Prancing Horse collection a little before that – UK-based dealer Tom Hartley Junior has now been entrusted with selling Mercedes F1 CEO & Team Principal Toto Wolff’s 1990 Ferrari F40.

“We’re very pleased to launch this very special F40 for sale. It’s one of only 27 Ferrari F40s delivered new to Spain and fresh from a complete overhaul by [restoration] experts Autofficina Bonini,” Tom Hartley Junior announced via Instagram.

“We all know Toto is a perfectionist but when you take a closer look at this car, you’ll have an even better understanding!”

Used “sparingly” during the Mercedes F1 boss’ ownership, as alluded to by Hartley Junior, the Ferrari F40 is in near-pristine condition with just 3,440 miles / 5,500 kilometres on the dash (“Perhaps due to him not wanting to be seen driving a Ferrari in his downtime”).

Complete with its original chassis, body, engine, and gearbox as confirmed by the Ferrari “Red Book” Classiche Certification, as well as its original books – which include the ever-important warranty/service supplement, leather wallet, plus a dedicated history file – this is truly a thing of collectible beauty.

In terms of performance, under the hood, you’ll find a twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of churning out 471 horsepower and 577 Nm of torque. Going from zero to 100 in 4.2 seconds, the F40 was regarded as both the most powerful and priciest Prancing Horse of its era.

While a price hasn’t been publicly disclosed, based on recent auction numbers as outlined by the Hagerty valuation tool, we’re looking at anywhere between US$2.4 million and the mid-US$3 million benchmark. Potentially more considering the pedigree of ownership and overwhelmingly impressive condition.

To quote Seb Vettel, everyone’s a Ferrari fan. Even Mr Mercedes himself.
