British automaker โ Bentley โ has made a sizeable commitment to sustainability with the announcement it will exclusively produce electric vehicles by the year 2030. Outlined in the brandโs Beyond100 strategy, ditching combustion altogether marks quite a transition for the worldโs largest producer of 12-cylinder petrol engines.
โWithin a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100 year old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury,โ says Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley.
โWe will not be building engines in less than a decadeโฆ This is profound change.โ
The Beyond100 strategy timeline is as follows:
- 2023 โ All Bentley vehicles will be offered with the option of a hybrid variant.
- 2025 โ Bentleyโs first fully electric model will be launched.
- 2026 โ All Bentley vehicles will be either plug-in hybrids or battery-powered.
- 2030 โ Bentley will become 100% electric.
The company has made assurances that this will not impact the overall quality or even the ethos of what Bentley represents. At its very core, these forthcoming electric vehicles will be a symbol of luxury, innovation, and remain at โthe forefront of progressโ.
โThe original Bentley boys were pioneers and leadersโฆ we will continue to lead by reinventing the company and becoming the worldโs benchmark luxury car business,โ says Hallmark.
โWeโre going to make Bentleys.โ
