McLaren remains one of the few supercar manufacturers that haven’t yet announced, let alone released, a performance SUV to the market, despite the huge popularity of cars such as the Lamborghini Urus – which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the automaker’s sales – Maserati Levante, and many more. Following the confirmation that McLaren was considering the introduction of an SUV to its line-up, speculation has been rife as to what it might look like. And these latest renders from graphic designer Nikita Chuiko have auto enthusiasts salivating.
With McLaren CEO Michael Leiters making it clear that any SUV would stay true to the supercar marques core DNA and “shouldn’t [be] a classic SUV,” Chuiko has taken cues from Leiters’ resume, having previously worked with both Ferrari and Porsche for their respective Purosangue and Cayenne SUVs. To that end, his renders of a McLaren SUV arrive as a Cayenne-sized with a number of clear design cues borrowed from the McLaren Artura, especially for the design of the front fascia including the LED strip headlights.
As a result of McLaren’s tight-lipped stance on where they are in the development process, very little is known about what we’ll receive when the SUV is eventually announced. However, rumour has it said SUV will be powered by an electric drive train with either a twin or tri-motor configuration. In any case, we’ll just have to wait a few more years before we actually get to see a McLaren SUV on the road, with the only rough timeframe offered by Leiters being the second half of this decade, as well as an anticipated price point around £350,000 (AU$625,000).
