The electrification of Porsche is continuing at a rapid clip, with the German automaker confirming that even the iconic 911 model will be getting a jolt of hybrid power in the near future. This news was reconfirmed by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume in a recent interview, where he discussed the brand’s strategy to release a number of fresh models within the 911 collection, such as the 911 Dakkar which was announced back in November and a yet-to-be-revealed hypercar.
In a wide-ranging interview with Car, Blume explained the current product strategy is to continue to deliver further hybrid and EV options within the range, aiming to arrive at 80% of Porsche’s offerings by the end of the decade. This push will work in tandem with Porsche spending big in R&D to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable synthetic fuels.
“We have a clear strategy driving the ramp-up of electrification during the next few years,” Blume explained, “with the goal of delivering over 80 per cent fully electric by 2030. It is a very strong ramp-up curve.”

On the 911, he described an exciting next step for the model as a, “very sporty hybridisation to the 911, so then we will have the offer of combustion engines and hybrid in the 911.” If you’re worried about only being able to buy a fully electric or hybrid 911 in the next decade, you needn’t with Blume confirming the 911 will be one of the final vehicles from Porsche that will be available with a combustion engine.
“Talking about the 911, it will be the model which we will drive as long as we can with a combustion engine,” he confirmed.
While there’s no confirmed timeline for the new hybrid 911, Porsche has slated the release of an all-electric Macan before the end of this year, as well as a 718 EV by 2025.
