Despite the explosive conclusion teased in HBO’s final trailer for Succession season 4, which premieres here in Australia on March 27th, focus has been pulled towards a sleek, futuristic car that appears to be a Lucid Air Pure.

This scene-stealing EV sedan was only briefly glimpsed in the opening seconds of said trailer – although, strangely enough, omitted entirely from Binge’s cut of the same promo – and absolutely reeks of Jeremy Strong’s new-age “progressive” bro scion: Kendall Roy. Or perhaps Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) is choosing to flex on Greenpeace after successfully suing them for his inheritance.

With a starting price of US$87,400 (AU$129,600), Lucid’s Air Pure is the “distillation of amazing range, performance, efficiency, and space”; the automaker’s most “essential” and lightest vehicle yet, as it were.

In terms of performance, the engine has a maximum power output of 480 horsepower and can achieve the zero to 60 mph dash in 3.8 seconds (or 0-100 km/h in around 4.2 seconds) with a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). The super-fast charging capabilities means it can be juiced up for 200 miles in just 15 minutes with an EPA estimate range of up to 410 miles (660 kilometres).

“There’s a reason we named it Pure. It’s the purest expression of the things we believe a Lucid vehicle should have. Bar-raising efficiency. Powerful performance. And absolute luxury. Lucid Air Pure embodies in-house innovations like the Lucid Space Concept and our miniaturized drivetrain, allowing a cavernous cabin, generous storage, and sportscar-like handling,” reads the official description.

“We put everything into this, including more space. With 12-way heated front seats with memory and ultra-soft, sustainable Mojave PurLuxe vegan leather, tranquillity is the destination of every journey. The rear seats offer class-leading legroom, and the entire cabin spoils with impeccable interior comfort, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.”

Other standout additions include the dual intuitive touch displays for “effortless, always there” control over essential functions (i.e. headlights, defroster, navigation, entertainment, etc.), 34-inch floating Glass Cockpit with 5K resolution, power-retractable Pilot Panel in the centre that hides to reveal a storage compartment, as well as facial recognition that auto-adjusts settings.

But as Robb Report have rightly pointed out, given the limited the car’s limited screentime in the latest Succession season 4 trailer, it’s entirely possible we’re looking the Lucid Air Dream Edition, which comes in either a Performance model augmented for speed and acceleration or a Range model that’s all about the mileage.

The Performance boasts a combined 1,111 horsepower and can achieve the zero to 60 mph dash in under 2.5 seconds (or 0-100 km/h in around 2.9 seconds); while the Range boasts 933 horsepower with a range of approximately 520 miles (837 kilometres) – reportedly the longest in he EV market. Both models house dual motors that provide a top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h). Both models start from US$169,000 (AU$260,600).

With the confirmation that Succession season 4 will close the chapter on HBO’s award-winning Murdoch family satire / modern adaptation of King Lear, the latest trailer featuring the Lucid Air Pure model certainly has an air of finality about it. And true to its reputation, there won’t be any half-measures.

The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd) inches closer by the day. Naturally, the prospect of this seismic acquisition provokes the usual bouts of existential angst and further familial division between the Roy clan’s adult children – mainly Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin); Connor’s (Alan Ruck) doing his own thing as usual – and patriarch Logan (Brian Cox).

Succession season 4, the end of the award-winning HBO black comedy as we know it, has set a release date: March 27th, 2023 (Australia).
