It was announced back in 2017, and has been delayed ever since, but according to Elon Musk, the Tesla Roadster will be unveiled and finally enter production this year, for a 2025 release date. Not only that, but Musk has stated it will be capable of going from 0-97km/h in less than one second and that such face-melting acceleration “is the least interesting part” of the car.
The upcoming 2025 Tesla Roadster (which was launched into space back in 2019) was put on the backburner by Musk’s automaker as it turned its attention to bringing the similarly-delayed Cybertruck to life.
According to Tesla spokespeople however, the Roadster’s design has been finalised: even though, at present, we don’t know much about the vehicle other than the fact it shall be a four-seater; has a reported 400km/h+ top speed; and 1,000km range.

As another data point, back in 2021 Musk said the Roadster would arrive with the upgrade option of a SpaceX Rocket Thruster package that could reduce the car’s 0-97km/h time down to 1.1-seconds, and that it would be “safe, but very intense.” The package was said to consist of 10 small rocket thrusters arranged around the car.
For better or worse, customers have gotten used to loose predictability when it comes to Tesla’s stated production and delivery deadlines; so there’s a solid chance 2025 is a more realistic date for the Roadster’s grand reveal. However, if it does arrive this year and proves capable of the sort of performance that Musk is touting (the Tesla Model S Plaid broke the Nürburgring Lap record, after all), there’s a good bet that waitlists for the thing will rival those of the original Model 3.
