  • Chinese electric car company Zeekr has revealed the 007 EV, which is capable of charging 10-80% in just over 10 minutes with new battery technology.
  • The company claims its new lithium iron phosphate 5.5C EV batteries can “charge at the fastest rate in the world”, while maintaining a CLTC range of 688km.
  • Deliveries of the Zeekr 007 EV began earlier this year, with a price of RMB 209,000 (AU$43,500).

Electric vehicle range and charging speeds are among the biggest sticking points for Aussies considering the switch to an EV, which is why the cutting-edge battery technology of the Zeekr 007 could be a game-changer.

Zeeker just announced an all-new lithium iron phosphate 5.5C EV battery that’s capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 10 and a half minutes. The charging test was performed with the new batteries fitted into the 007 EV, before being connected to Zeekr V3 ultra-fast charging piles.

Perhaps what’s most remarkable about this battery is its consistency at a range of different temperatures — with extreme cold significantly slowing the charge rate of many EV batteries. The lithium iron phosphate 5.5C EV battery was still affected by the cold, but was able to charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes while under -10 degree Celsius conditions.

The Zeekr 007 EV was first revealed at Auto Guangzhou at the end of last year, receiving 51,569 orders in less than 6 weeks and offering both standard and long-range variants of the car. At launch, the CATL Qilin battery-equipped long-range versions offered a CLTC (City, Highway, and Combined Testing Cycles) range of 870km, while the standard edition promised 688km of CLTC range.

Deliveries of the Zeekr 007 EV with the updated lithium iron phosphate 5.5C EV battery will begin as soon as next week, which maintain the CLTC range of 688km. With a price of RMB 209,000 (AU$43,500), it’s not yet available in Australia, but hopefully that will change soon.
