Motorhomes are seldom the sexiest of vehicles. Typically associated with grey nomad types slowing traffic on the Great Ocean Road, they arenโt everyoneโs idea of travelling in style, either. But this luxurious Terra Wind Amphibious Motorhome is evidence that you donโt have to be retired on a budget to road trip across the country in comfort.
Manufactured by Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International (CAMI) โ a husband and wife operation out of South Carolina โ this is definitely one of the coolest motorhomes youโll come across. Using more than two decades of amphibious vehicle building experience, the Terra Wind Amphibious Motorhome can drive to your lakeside destination and convert into a watercraft to take you across it.
The massive Class-A RV measures an impressive 42.5 feet long and weighs nearly 15,000 kg. Thatโs right, definitely donโt get it stuck in the sand, or youโll need a serious tow-truck to get you out. As a result of its significant mass, the motorhome is powered by a Caterpillar 3126E turbocharged 330bhp diesel engine, which should get you up any hills without a hitch.

As a result of its enormous diesel engine, the Terra Wind Amphibious Motorhome can hit speeds of nearly 130 km/h and 8 knots when itโs in the water. But how does it convert into a houseboat?
It boasts a pair of 3.9-metre pontoons on either side to maintain balance, while the entire body of the vehicle is waterproofed to ensure it only hits the bank of the lake and never the bottom. If you do spring a leak, it also has an emergency water pump to keep you afloat until you make it back to dry land.
As youโd expect for the US$850,000 base model (AU$1,155,000) or the US$1.2 million premium option (AU$1,631,000), all of the interior trimmings are designed to make you feel like youโre on a yacht. Complete with marble tiled floors, granite bench-tops, and teak cabinets, youโll feel right at home no matter how youโre used to travelling.
