Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed the richest deal ever for the NFL, according to Fox Sports. The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player has been secured for the next four years by the Packers for a record fee of $183 million (US$134 m). A juicy signing bonus of $US57.5 million will see him take home roughly $400,000 USD ($550,000 AUD) per day for the next 200 days.
Including endorsements and bonuses, Rodgers is set to earn $US90million this financial year alone, a salary that will slot him in at fifth on Forbes’ 2018 list of richest athletes.
Last year’s top dogs included the likes of Conor McGregor ($130 million), Cristiano Ronaldo ($142 million), Lionel Messi ($146 million) and Floyd Mayweather ($375 million).
Despite being out of play for half of last season due to a broken collarbone, Green Bay was keen to lock down their star QB in a deal that will see him likely end his career with the Packers beyond the age of 40.
Rodgers and the Packers will face-off with long-time rivals Chicago for the season opener at home on September 9th.
