  • A collection of authentic Formula 1 helmets is going under the hammer at Bonhams’ The Miami Auction next month.
  • Among an entire slew of coveted rides and memorabilia are the race-worn lids of Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, and Lando Norris.
  • Bonhams’ The Miami Auction officially kicks off on the weekend of this year’s Miami Grand Prix (Saturday, May 3rd).

Between the championship-winning cars and hulking simulators, there certainly isn’t a shortage of high-end Formula 1 memorabilia. But this latest drop – destined for a Bonhams auction hosted at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend – may be the most practical offering in a long time. And by that, we mean they’ll fit on a shelf.

Among the highlights of The Miami Auction are the lids of two-time champion Fernando Alonso from both iterations of his storied career, Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, as well as young gun and this season’s leading point scorer, McLaren Racing’s Lando Norris. All of which are signed.

Norris’ (pricing estimate: US$20,000 to US$30,000) was used during Bahrain testing and the early rounds of the 2023 season; Gasly’s (pricing estimate: US$15,000 to US$25,000) was used during his time with AlphaTauri, specifically for the 2021 United States Grand Prix; while Leclerc’s (pricing estimate: (US$25,000 to US$35,000) comes at a slight premium compared to the other two given its backstory.

Worn by the Prince of Monaco at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, started from P14 after a disastrous wet qualifier, but managed to claw his way up to P2; though he was ultimately denied a podium finish after a last-lap battle that saw him pushed down to P4.

As for the matter of the perennial rookie that is Fernando Alonso, bidders have the option of either a 2022 Bell from his season with Alpine (pricing estimate: US$15,000 to US$25,000) or the 2004 Arai from the season he finished P4 with Renault; eventually going on to win consecutive world titles with the French race outfit before that tense stint alongside Sir Lewis Hamilton at McLaren.

Additionally, while it never made an appearance in F1, the 1991 Shoei helmet of the legendary Michael Schumacher will also be up for grabs. With a pre-auction valuation of US$30,000 to US$50,000 (and a precedent to sell for six figures), this was apparently used during his karting career and possibly for  Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM).

Other than Formula 1 helmets, notable auction items include the race overalls of Alonso, Hamilton, Damon Hill, and Alain Prost, as well as the championship-winning 2009 Brawn BGP001 driven by Rubens Barichello, effectively the talisman of F1’s greatest underdog story. The latter, understandably, has an eye-watering estimated price range of US$4.5 million to US$6.5 million.
