Formula 1 has inevitably reached the dynastic dominance stage of its cycle with Red Bull Racing and three-time world champion Max Verstappen. It’s to the point where the vast majority of 2023’s race outcomes were fairly predictable — but that doesn’t mean revisiting the campaign can’t be interesting. Especially with the oft-criticised dramatic slant of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive To Survive, which returns for season 6 in just a few short weeks.
In line with the final days of the 2024 pre-season testing occurring at the Bahrain International Circuit, the hit sports docuseries is scheduled to premiere on February 23rd, 2024 as something of an annual warm-up for all the fans out there.

“Genuinely, we are enormously proud to be a part of it,” stated longtime executive producer James Gay-Rees, who has returned alongside Box-To-Box Films’ Paul Martin.
“There’s also a lot of satisfaction at being first with these things, and I think that it kind of does feel like the first main access show — certainly out of the UK anyway — that has had this profound effect.”
Not only has Drive To Survive had a profound impact on Formula 1’s growth in viewership and global popularity, it’s also lit the fuse for an entire genre of sporting-related media consumption. Since arriving at streaming queues back in 2019, Netflix has tackled tennis (Break Point), golf (Full Swing), cycling (Unchained), and American football (Quarterback), and soon enough, the NBA — largely with the same team behind DTS.
Gay-Rees added: “Bringing such a big new audience to a sport — which obviously was deserved, it just needed somebody to open it up — is massively satisfying.”
“The fact that it wasn’t a fluke, the fact that it’s grown [with every season]… It’s a real honour and we love it. It’s a very difficult show to make, but we love the process, we love the world. Long may it continue!”
