  • F1: The Academy will soon join the growing stable of highly bingeable Netflix docuseries that feature Drive To Survive and Full Swing – “unprecedented access,” dramatic stakes, and all.
  • The F1 Academy is a Formula 4-level championship founded by the FIA to foster the talents of young women in motorsport (particularly open-wheel racing).
  • F1: The Academy release date: May 28th via Netflix.

With the Drive To Survive machine steadily humming along, Netflix has now set its sights on the all-female grid of the F1 Academy for a brand new docuseries.

Launching next month, the seven-part affair will (as expected) offer unprecedented access to not just the budding young hotshots of the development championship throughout the 2024 season – such as Prema Racing’s Bianca Bustamante and MP Motorsport’s Maya Weug – but also the “adrenaline, grit, and emotional” turmoil on race day and beyond.

And at the centre of this is none other than Susie Wolff: credentialled former professional driver, the first woman to drive during a Formula 1 weekend in 22 years, former Venturi Racing (Formula E) team principal, and current managing director of F1 Academy.

“As one of the most respected women in motorsport, Wolff leads the new stable of women drivers with a rare blend of strategic vision and firsthand experience,” explains Netflix.

“The stakes couldn’t be higher. For many of the women featured in F1: The Academy, this is more than just another big race. It’s a shot at changing the game. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access, the series tracks rivalries, setbacks, victories, and the quiet moments in between, revealing what it really takes to succeed in the high-octane world of Formula 1.”

“Expect pulse-pounding action, vulnerability, and the undeniable energy of a movement gaining speed.”

F1: The Academy has been produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. Aside from Witherspoon herself, the executive producers include Sara Rea, Sarah Lazenby, and Wolff; along with Isabelle Stewart and Ian Holmes for F1. Lisa Keane serves as showrunner.

The docuseries cruises into streaming queues from May 28th, 2025. Keep an eye out for it.
