Lionel Messi’s deal with Paris Saint-Germain Football Club is coming to an end and people are beginning to wonder about what’s next. While many had their hearts set on a reunion at Camp Nou with FC Barcelona publicly stating the move was now “financially viable,” it’s starting to look like the Argentinian forward will be making his way to the MLS. According to The Times, Lionel Messi is close to signing a deal with Inter Miami CF.
Within his current PSG contract, there’s an option for a further 12-month extension. The club has suggested that it’s also willing to offer a one-year deal plus an option for a second year at €30 million each. Given how PSG’s 2022-23 football campaign saw a massive return to form, you can understand why there’s such an interest in keeping him inside the gates of Parc des Princes.

But a move to the MLS seems all but confirmed given Messi’s relationship with Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami co-owner and president David Beckham. When Becks was prompted about the possibility of Lionel Messi donning the pink kit of Inter Miami down the line, he said:
“I’ve always said I want the best players in our club and playing in our shirt because there’s a certain expectation. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bad thing. But most of the time it’s a good thing.”
“When I first started this project, people were saying, ‘This guy is coming, that guy is coming, Ronaldo is coming, Messi’s coming.’ At the end of the day, we need to win, whether it’s with the young kids or stars.”

“Our fans will be happy if we have stars on the team, but they’ll be even happier if they’re seeing young players coming through our academy and lifting the MLS Cup.”
The Times has also reported that the Florida-based outfit is pursuing Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez – the close friends and former teammates of Messi from his time at Barcelona – to potentially sweeten the pot. When asked about the possibility of playing in the MLS back in 2020, Messi admitted that the idea was appealing at this stage in his career.
“I always said that I have the impression that I would like to enjoy the experience of living in the United States, of living in that league and that life, but if it happens or not I don’t know.”
