A massive 5.8-hectare site in Perth has been earmarked for global surf park brand Aventuur, which is bringing Western Australia the Southern Hemisphere’s largest surf park with 25 different waves and enough capacity to turn through a million visitors a year. With $100 million invested into the project, it’s looking like we’ll be seeing this enormous URBNSURF rival land in 2025 considering the site has now received official developmental approval.
The plans were first announced last year but were fairly vague due to the lack of the aforementioned approval. It’s looking like the working name will simply be Perth Surf Park although a few more regulatory approvals are needed before we get too excited.
“We’ve been working closely with the WA Government and the City of Cockburn to design an authentic, inclusive and sustainable surf park and I couldn’t be more stoked that we’re one step closer to delivering a new community asset for Perth,” said a spokesperson for Aventuur.
You’ll find Aventuur’s Perth Surf Park along Prinsep Road in Jandakot, which is just a stone’s throw from Cockburn Central Station. Once it’s opened, you won’t be able to miss the 56-module surfing lagoon that’ll be specifically designed to create perfect waves of all shapes and sizes.
Given the size, the project will also feature on-site accommodation as well as a beach club and several bars and restaurants. There’ll even be a dedicated wellness and recovery centre, a fitness studio and some co-working spaces for desk jockeys who might want to split from the office and work from a surf park for a day.
For those who aren’t keen on surfing, the site will feature a skate park as well as a pump track and some gardens to round out any out-of-water time. This also means that there will be skate programs for any beginners, in addition to the expected surfing and fitness programs, making this a broader wellness facility as opposed to just a surf park with manmade waves.
