Stephen Curry: Underrated — the first major documentary about the four-time NBA champion and future Hall of Famer — now has a teaser trailer, courtesy of A24 and Apple TV+.
Chronicling the modern icon’s rise to prominence with the Davidson College Wildcats, all the way to the Golden State Warriors’ latest championship run in 2022 wherein Curry was named NBA Finals MVP, the upcoming film has been produced by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther) and directed by Peter Nicks (The Force, Homeroom).

“Stephen Curry: Underrated is the remarkable coming-of-age story of one of the most influential, dynamic, and unexpected players in the history of basketball,” reads the official description.
“This feature documentary — blending intimate cinema verité, archival footage, and on-camera interviews — documents Curry’s rise from an undersized college player at a small town Division I college to a four-time NBA champion, building one of the most dominant sports dynasties in the world.”  Â
Steph Curry (real name: Wardell Stephen Curry II) burst onto the scene during the 2007-08 NCAA Tournament’s March Madness, leading his underdog team to the Elite 8.
Setting a single-season NCAA record for the most three-pointers scored, this marked the turning point where the point guard distinguished himself as so much more than just the son of former NBA player, Dell Curry — a shooting guard previously signed to the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Raptors (in that order).

The younger Curry, of course, would go on to become one of the most decorated NBA players of the modern era, defying the judgement of just about every NBA scout (hence the documentary title), in addition to making history with back-to-back blockbuster contracts (alongside a rumoured $1 billion lifetime contract with Under Armour).
While the majority of players would’ve called it a day after inking paperwork that netted them over $200 million on two separate occasions, to this day, Steph Curry continues to rack up accolades most pro ballers could only dream of being in contention for.
Stephen Curry: Underrated, A24’s Steph Curry documentary, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, and is scheduled for a simultaneous release (theatrical and streaming) on July 21st of 2023 — check out the teaser trailer above.
