While the rest of us wait patiently for the lifts to start turning on the tantalisingly close Northern Hemisphere ski season, this local flick “The Sky Piercer,” slated for release next week, will tide you over.

The New Zealand-shot film, supported by The North Face, sees Kiwi athlete Sam Smoothy lead a cadre of fellow shredders to climb and ski the East Face of Aoraki Mt Cook. When they’re beaten down by the weather and a summit looking less and less likely, the objective fades quickly as the time and weather windows close in fast.

The A CoLab Creative Film, directed by Jase Hancox, is screening next Wednesday (Sydney)/Thursday (Melbourne) – hit the links for tickets and catch the trailer below.
