Both at the top of their respective industries, Montblanc and Ferrari have partnered to expand their collaborative collection to include a new (and frighteningly expensive) fountain pen called the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3. Inspired by the sleekly proportioned 2021 Ferrari Daytona SP3, the pen was brought to life thanks in part to Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari’s Chief Design Officer and features sweeping lines of the Prancing Horse.
Crafted from titanium, an unusual material for the legendary writing instrument manufacturer, the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 features a semi-transparent blade-like section that slices through the barrel of the pen, reminiscent of the Daytona SP3’s front bumpers. The blade is actually removable, exposing the inner mechanism of the ink well that has been crafted from white gold, while the nib of the collaborative fountain pen is made from malleable solid white gold to mould itself around the owner’s writing style.
“It was a fascinating design challenge to translate the proportions and fluidity of the Daytona SP3, ideally contoured for dynamic performance,” explained Manzoni about the process of bringing the pen to life. As a limited edition of just 599 pieces worldwide, the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 fountain pen arrives with a staggering RRP that’s worthy of the Ferrari emblem, set to cost US$27,500 (AU$39,543).
