If the various showings at Paris and Milan Fashion Week are anything to go by, 2025 is shaping up to be another bumper year for the generous and unbothered silhouette of baggy jeans.
The style’s enduring popularity — amongst it-guys like Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi — has helped to solidify the cult of the wide-volume pant more widely. Even when you strip away all its algorithmic virality, and recent trendiness on designer runways, the appeal’s easy to get.
As a striking volume that offers more opportunities to experiment with fit and fabric, it’s unsurprising that baggy jeans continue to be an item of interest among clothes lovers.
Here then are nine of the best examples you can buy right now. One thing’s for sure: stovepipe denim won’t replace this selection soon.

Carhartt Double Knee Pant
DETAILS
- ‘Smith’ denim, 13.5oz
- Fitted with tool pockets & hammer loop
- Signature two-layer knee
- Made in China
An iconic (not to mention polarising) style from American workwear giant Carhartt, these days you’re more likely to glimpse the brand’s signature double-knee pants in cafes and trendy inner city wine bars than you are in any hardhat setting.
In spite of all that, it remains a classic for a reason. Available here in Australia in two equally versatile 13.5oz washes, think of these as your gateway drug into the world of big, billowy trousers.
The fit through the thigh and waist is generally relaxed, while the leg has been reinforced with a “double knee” of fabric – a detail originally inspired by railway worker’s attire in the late 1800s.
Uniqlo Wide Straight Jeans
DETAILS
- Laser processing for a “worn-in” finish
- Classic 5-pocket configuration
- Multiple colourways
In typical fashion, Uniqlo’s simply named “wide” and “straight” jeans are the most affordable option on our baggy denim menu. But, that certainly doesn’t mean that they’re a slouch in the quality department.
Sold, helpfully, by the Japanese mega-retailer in unisex sizing (measure the width of your waist in inches for best results) these are a flexible foundation on which to stack sportswear, tailoring and most other popular genres of clothing.
A wide hip and straight leg flatters those who spend a lot of time using squat rack. For a truly billowy look – in line with what you’ll glimpse in the feed of every second fashion influencer – consider sizing up.
orSlow ‘Dad’s Fit’ Painter Pants
DETAILS
- Black stonewash denim
- Classic 5-pocket configuration
- Utility loops
- Made in Japan
Another underrated Japanese workwear label — that we’re kind of relieved has pinged fewer people’s radar — orSlow specialises in contemporary, but quietly vintage-inspired staples – the sort that will only improve with age.
These ‘Painters’ Pants’ are a typical example. Founder Ichiro Nakatsu has been making a version of the hard-wearing style since the late 2000s – and, predictably, mastered it in the process. Cut with a relaxed waist and arrow-straight leg all the way through, this stylish alternative to typical baggy jeans is as (if not more) comfortable.
Cut from stonewashed Japanese denim, we’re not sure it was purpose-built with building sites or the painter’s studio in mind – though odds are, it’ll look great with a bit of the ol’ wear & tear.
Our Legacy ‘Third Cut’ Denim
DETAILS
- Trompe l’oeil denim
- Classic 5-pocket configuration
- Digitally printed for a “well-worn” look
- Made in Italy
Truthfully, it’d almost be better to describe Our Legacy’s ‘Third Cut’ as oversized straight-cut denim – rather than your average pair of baggy jeans. The critically acclaimed Swedish fashion label has succeeded in crafting a cut of jeans that (as cliche as it sounds) goes with just about everything.
Sure, the proportions here twist atop your footwear and the sheer amount of fabric is definitely on the fashion-forward side, but once you’ve gotten used to the ‘Third Cut’ it’s unlikely you’ll reach for a pair of slim or tapered jeans again.
Our Legacy offers the style in a range of classic, vintage-inspired washes but it’s the ‘Digital’ option that is our pick of the bunch. Printed to give “the appearance of a well-worn pair” of extremely old jeans, so many of this style’s digital details are so well-conceived you’ll actually mistake them for battle scars.
Levi’s Vintage Clothing ‘1955’ Customised Jeans
DETAILS
- Archival reproduction of ’50s-era Levi’s 501
- Bootcut insert panels
- Sold with a D-ring leather belt
Part of a capsule that Levi’s made earlier this year inspired by A Complete Unknown, these ‘1955’ jeans are an imagined take on what Bob Dylan, America’s favourite singer-songwriter, would have worn throughout his early years.
The basic recipe here is pure Levi’s 501: with twin pockets, plenty of rivets and the eponymous denim model’s flattering combination of a straight leg and medium rise.
For the price, you might expect a bit more though – and Levi’s delivers. For this vintage reproduction, the brand favours high-quality selvedge denim and a “bootcut panel” detail; helping to recapture the feeling of Levi’s most iconic jeans, during the counterculture decade.
Madewell Wide-Leg Jean
DETAILS
- Blue Diamond denim, 13.0oz
- Regenagri® certified
- Multiple colourways
- Made in China
Always a solid option when you’re in the market for apparel that balances cost with quality, Madewell offers a pretty impressive range of denim – in various washes, cuts, and fabrications.
The American workwear brand’s aptly named ‘wide-leg’ jeans are some of their baggiest yet: designed to please those who love “fuller legs” and “higher rises”.
To that end, these baggy jeans are a great option if you’re looking for pants to wear alongside tailored separates or chunky leather footwear. Even if your physique is on the rotund side, the high buttoning point makes this workable for a range of body shapes.
The choice in denim is similarly egalitarian: weighing in at 13oz, it’s robust and comfy enough for wear in Australia, three-quarters of the year.
Dickie’s 85-283 Double-Knee Denim
DETAILS
- ‘Dickies Midweight’ denim, 12.0oz
- Double-layer knee
- Signature woven label
- Multiple colourways
Arguably more popular with skaters and hardcore fans than those in the business of physical labour, these double-knee jeans from Dickie’s are a reasonably priced (and impressively low-maintenance) addition to your wardrobe.
Made with a similar two-layer detail to Carhartt’s best-selling double-knee pants, one could argue that this baggy style from Dickie’s isn’t quite as hot on the make front.
Still, for less than half the price, there’s a lot to like here. The 12oz fabric has been treated for a soft feeling in the hands and easy, “stain releasing” properties. Meanwhile, the right leg features a nifty thigh-high utility pocket: great for carrying around a hammer, gardening gloves or other similarly sized DIY tools.
Abercrombie & Fitch Athletic Baggy Jean
DETAILS
- 99% cotton denim, with elastane
- Carpenter-style utility details
- Multiple colourways
After years of decline and controversy, we’re delighted to report that Abercrombie & Fitch – the once-great American outdoor apparel maker – is getting back to basics. This ‘athletic baggy jean’ is an encouraging step in the right direction.
Part of the brand’s ‘vintage denim’ series, these are cut with a roomy seat and thigh: fantastic proportions for cycling and power-lifting types, who don’t wish to compromise on the baggy aesthetic.
Though Abercrombie’s athletic jean is made in a variety of colours, this particular model incorporates “carpenter-style” details. (Our favourite is the utility loop on the left leg.)
Studio Nicholson
DETAILS
- 99% cotton denim, with elastane
- Carpenter-style utility details
- Multiple colourways
Yes, we could have included a classic pair of baggy white jeans to round out our shortlist – but, if you’re keen on innovation, we think you’ll like these better.
London-based Studio Nicholson’s “obsession with fabrics” led to the brand crafting these unusual, wide-leg volumes (closer to dress trousers than they are workwear), using crinkly Japanese denim. Texturally, the effect is of pants that look like they’re made out of shoji screens or the inside of a chip packet – but this rustic choice in material is elevated by the use of refined details.
A self-fabric belt and oversized square pockets give the wearer plenty in the way of functionality while reminding everybody else: regular old baggy jeans, these ain’t.
