The Australian Open and Ralph Lauren have just announced a long-term partnership which will result in every on-court personnel from the ballkids, linesmen/lineswomen, to the chair umpires looking hella fresh this summer – because the iconic pony is now saddling up to become the event’s official outfitter.
This latest development makes Ralph Lauren the official outfitter to three out of the world’s four Grand Slam tournaments, with the Australian Open joining both the US Open and Wimbledon. Designed specifically for Melbourne’s January climate, the forthcoming collection of apparel and accessories will be constructed from recycled plastic yarn and provide “functional performance features” – i.e. stretch, moisture-wicking properties, UV protection, active play capability, etc.
Spectators will also be able to get in on the action thanks to Ralph Lauren’s on-site store at the Australian Open. Featuring a Create-Your-Own program, personalisation options for Ralph Lauren Polo shirts, pullovers, and totes will include an assortment of classic Polo icons as well as names/initials.
“We are delighted to welcome Ralph Lauren to the Australian Open family and proud to partner with this prestigious global brand who have a role in some of the world’s biggest sporting events,” says Craig Tiley, Australian Open Tournament Director.
“The Ralph Lauren style and sophistication will bring a fresh new look to the AO and the uniform designs reflect the contemporary, playful, and premium AO brand.”
“For over 50 years, the Polo brand has embodied a spirit of sporty elegance and we are thrilled to partner with the Australian Open, adding this iconic event to Ralph Lauren’s incredible portfolio of sports partnerships,” says David Lauren, Ralph Lauren Chief Innovation, Branding Officer, & Vice Chairman of the Board.
“The AO is well known for its energy and personality and is a natural alignment for our brand as we continue our commitment to the world of sports and reaching consumers through their areas of passion.”
