  • Award-winning designer Jonathan Anderson (of Loewe fame) is once again teaming up with Uniqlo for a capsule of Spring/Summer wardrobe staples.
  • The collection includes a range of unisex apparel and accessories, inspired by British craft and the London artist aesthetic of the 1940s to 1960s.
  • JW Anderson x Uniqlo SS24 will arrive in-store and digitally on Monday, October 14th.

Few, if any, high street retailers have as covetable a roster of designer collaborations as Uniqlo. Over the years, the Japanese behemoth of everyday basics has garnered a reputation for teaming up with some of fashion’s staunchest talents.

There are its many capsules with White Mountaineering, the indispensable Uniqlo U sub-line (co-designed by king of the ‘sexy librarian’ look, Christophe Lemaire) and of course, its partnership with JW Anderson — the prodigious Irish designer best known as the Creative Director of Loewe and designer/founder behind his own namesake label.

Despite an almost mythological workload, Anderson is once again teaming up with Uniqlo to bring the brand’s Spring/Summer 2024 narrative to life. Made up of an array of menswear, womenswear, and unisex accessories, the collection goes on sale digitally (and at select Uniqlo Australia stores) on October 14th.

Titled In The Artist’s Studio, JW Anderson x Uniqlo is chockful of the breezy tailoring and cheerful block colours you might imagine a young David Hockney wearing circa 1961.

That is very much not a coincidence: with this collection, Anderson hoped to “honour iconic mid-century designs of the past,” by rendering them on the person of those “artists who are living and working in London today.”

“We drew inspiration from Britain through the 1940s to 1960s,” says Anderson, “[in order] to showcase garment craftsmanship and durability.”

Despite the affable price tag, both craft and durability are present in this collection in a pronounced way. Drawing on Uniqlo’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and Anderson’s famously lighthearted eye for detail, even staples as humble as the $50 polo are conceived with a lot of low-key cleverness.

Whether real or imagined, the contemporary artist who Anderson is interested in dressing has lots of options at their disposal — joined together by their shared quality of modality.

From the accurately named — not to mention unisex — “relaxed pants” to a short-sleeved shirt in seersucker that is peppered in gingham check, one can mash the individual pieces of JW Anderson x Uniqlo SS24 up at random. And odds are, you’ll still come away looking like a perfectly dishevelled genius slumming it at a London arts college.

A very specific look, we know. But if you’re into it, Uniqlo’s latest designer team-up for Spring 2024 has lots to offer for a very low barrier to entry.
