As men, there’s that terrible stage in life where the worries of hair loss come to the forefront of the mind. It becomes a game of figuring out how best to deal with it and the stresses that come with it. In a great move for us some Japanese scientists have found a potential solution in the most unexpected places. Researchers at Yokohama National University have used a chemical called dimethylpolysiloxane to mass produce hair follicles in mice and hopefully humans in the long run.

In a stroke of luck for everyone, the chemical can be commonly found in silicone which is actually added to cooking oil for fries at McDonald’s restaurants. According to Junji Fukuda, a professor who helped write the study, the use of dimethylpolysiloxane was crucial to successfully producing growth at rapid speeds.

“This simple method is very robust and promising,” Fukuda said. “We hope that this technique will improve human hair regenerative therapy to treat hair loss such as androgenic alopecia.”

So whilst human trials are yet to commence, if you’re looking for a way to stave off the hair loss or get some of it back, a quick trip to the drive-thru may be the solution (but don’t take our word for it, just use it as another excuse to overindulge).
