In the eternal words of Ian McEwan, he observed that beauty occupied a narrow band, but “ugliness, on the hand, had infinite variation.” The folks on the respective teams at Crocs and Balenciaga seem to have taken this concept quite literally, in what appears to be their indefatigable pursuit of creating the world’s most unattractive shoes after we saw a sneak peek of a camo-coloured platform clog.

This isn’t the first time the Parisian high-fashion brand and the manufacturer of rubber clogs have worked together, following the release of a stacked pool slide a few months back. Unfortunately, that recent effort doesn’t appear to have satiated the unlikely collaborators, with another high-fashion, low-rent link-up that footwear designer Salehe Bembury offered a glimpse of yesterday.

Regular readers of Boss Hunting will remember Bembury’s own close relationship with Crocs, resulting in the Crocs Pollex Clog that featured a fingerprint motif across its surface. The ex-Versace footwear designer paid a visit to Crocs HQ yesterday, snapping a picture of the as-yet-unreleased collaboration between Crocs and Balenciaga while he was in the offices.

The classic Croc silhouette is easily identifiable in the upper section of the shoe, executed in a grey-scale camouflage pattern and complete with a Balenciaga-branded ankle strap. However, the lower half of the shoe is what caught our eye, with an enormous platform sole that looks to add at least two or three inches in height to its wearer.

Sure, Crocs and Balenciaga are literally taking their collaborations to new heights, but unfortunately not in any conceptual or aesthetic way. While the shoe hasn’t yet been released and pricing isn’t confirmed, the two brand’s HardCrocs Sandal in black rubber that costs $1,350 might offer some insight into a future RRP.
