With Paris Fashion Week in full swing, Dior unveiled its Fall/Winter23 collection this week that gave a closer look at its new cutting-edge shoe designs. Under the guidance of creative director Kim Jones and his head of men’s footwear design, Thibo Denis, the freshly revealed Dior 3D-printed shoes offer a look at a future of footwear where handmade craftsmanship is complemented by increasingly advanced technology.
Created in the style of a Derby shoe and a mid-calf boot, these new designs are some of the most sophisticated we’ve seen from a technology the footwear industry has gradually been experimenting with over the last couple of years. While adidas has been tinkering with midsole design and ASICS dropped a 3D-printed slide last year, Dior has taken things up a notch this season with more complex printing patterns including a distinct solid logo on the heel and a quicklace system in the Derby shoe.
Delivering the impression of a solid traditional shoe from afar, both of these designs will be remarkably lightweight when worn, creating a contrast that would have been impossible to achieve without the progression of 3D printing technology. While there’s no word yet on pricing for either of these 3D-printed Dior shoes, it’s safe to say this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of these geometric lattice designs.
