While there’s no replacing the honest, working-class pair of rubber thongs as far as everyday summer staples go, the rise and rise of Birkenstock’s social stock mean flip flops aren’t your only option anymore. In a new collaboration that just makes sense, Birkenstock has linked with Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God in a collaboration that’s as luxurious as it is elegant.
The collaborations team at Birkenstock has been working hard to level up over the last year or so, with the internet-breaking partnership with Dior a rampant success. Following up on such a popular collection was always going to be a tough ask, but this latest collaboration with Fear of God speaks to the German footwear brand’s versatility to be translated.
Called Los Feliz (named after the exclusive neighbourhood in Los Angeles), the design has Lorenzo’s fingerprints all over it, encapsulating his relaxed and functional approach to premium product design. The sandal features the cork-latex footbed you’ve come to expect from Birkenstock but has been wrapped in luxurious suede, while the silhouette has been lifted by 10mm thanks to an extra layer of translucent TPU rubber.

The upper section of the Los Feliz has been finished in your choice of more heavily textured suede or felted wool, creating a flap that overhangs slightly. “We’re always attempting to create a product that’s rooted in function and necessity, that is preceded by a clear aesthetic point of view,” explained Jerry Lorenzo said in a statement.
“The Los Feliz sandal is a sleek and tangible expression of both brands’ shared guiding principles of intentionality and inclusivity,” said Birkenstock CEO Oliver Reichert. “By fusing the Birkenstock footbed and single strap design with Fear of God’s distinct and refined aesthetic, we continue to foster innovation with like-minded visionaries.”
Fear of God x Birkenstock Los Feliz will be available from January 25th, with prices still to be confirmed.
