Though Nick Kyrgios is now out of the Australian Open after losing to Canada’s Milos Raonic, he definitely went out in style. The 23-year-old tennis star sported a flashy new fully-Nike outfit in his Wednesday match, complete with a footwear collaboration with NBA point guard Kyrie Irving and clothing inspired by Melbourne’s beach culture.
The NikeCourt Vapor X “Kyrie 5” that Kyrgios flexed on court is a hybrid Vapor X tennis shoe. The low-cut tennis version features a Flytrap-inspired upper for a lockdown fit. The outsole includes a heel Zoom Air unit and is reinforced in high-wear areas to withstand hardcourt play. The Kyrie logo is matched with the NikeCourt logo appearing on the tongue of the shoe.
The basketball version of the Vapor X’s have had a better break thus far with Kyrie Irving debuting them last Tuesday to score 17 points and lead the Celtics to victory over the Nets.
From the 2019 Nike Melbourne collection and designed for the sweltering Australian summer, Kyrgios’ apparel includes a NikeCourt Men’s jacket, Advantage Polo and Flex Dri-FIT Printed Shorts.
The apparels Dri-FIT material allows maximum breathability designed to combat the fierce Australian heat. Designs take inspiration from early Nike tennis DNA, such as the denim print shorts (thankfully, not actually made of denim) made iconic by Andre Agassi. Melbourne’s beaches inspired the bright stripes.
