Our first glimpse of a Nintendo 64-inspired Nike Air Max 97 has just seen the light of day, courtesy of @sneakerbardetroit on Instagram.
The now-popular Nike Air Max 97 has been tweaked with nostalgia in this special edition, using the original colourway of the iconic game console’s controller for its retro theme.
Green and blue piping wrap around the sneaker as a reference to the “A” and “B” buttons, which find themselves on a classically Nintendo-grey baselayer. The tongue trim and Swoosh logo see red; taking cues from the “Start” button and the C-buttons’ bright yellow hue can be found in the sole’s air unit.
To reassure you that this colourway isn’t just pure coincidence, further details include “Power” and “Reset” embroidery at the tongue, an ESRB rating logo on the insole, and “AirMax” printed in Nintendo font at the heel.
Hypebeast reports that the Nintendo 64 Air Max 97’s are rumoured to drop soon for a price of US$160. More to come on Australian availability when we get it.
