Like clockwork every September, Apple releases all of their new goodies for the year. This year, among the excitement around the new iPhone 13 and new iPad, the Apple Watch Series 7 has dropped, alongside a fresh pair of luxury straps from Hermès.

The latest generation of the hottest selling watch on the planet comes with a number of important iterative updates, including changes to the screen size and resolution, better battery life and more intuitive ways of interacting with the smartwatch. Likewise, the two new Hermès leather straps come complete with matching dial options and a unique chain-link style.

First up, the Apple Watch Series 7 features a screen that is 20% larger, thanks to the ultra-slim 1.7mm bezel that frames it. The screen has also been updated to feature a new Always-On Retina display that is brighter, and redesigned to make the crystal over the screen more durable and resistant to cracking.

The new larger display is also easier to interact with, featuring larger commonly used buttons and menus, as well as a new QWERTY keyboard. This is thanks to the new watchOS 8 operation system, which is optimised for the larger screen and has improvements to GPS tracking while cycling, as well as fall detection. Apple has also improved the dust resistance of the Apple Watch Series 7, while keeping the same water-resistance of 50m.

The other big news in the Apple Watch Series 7 is the significantly improved battery life, now with a full 18 hours between charges. Charging has also been improved, now an impressive 33% quicker than in the past thanks to the new Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable.

“Apple Watch Series 7 delivers significant improvements,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “From our largest and most advanced display, to enhanced durability and faster charging – making the world’s best smartwatch better than ever before.”

The new smartwatch from Apple is available in two different sizes – 41mm and 45mm – as well as being available five new case colours. There are also several new strap options, including a duo from their luxury leather goods partner Hermès. The two new strap styles from Hermès are called the Circuit H, which features the brand’s anchor chain design, and the Gourmette Double Tour, which references designs from the Hermès archive.
