Gifted by legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna to his mentor, this Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in 18K yellow gold is one of Swiss timekeeper’s most prestigious examples.
Credited with “discovering” the Brazillian and bringing him to Italy when he was just 18, Angelo Parrilla guided the racing prodigy during his early career, a relationship honoured on the watch case back that reads “A Angelo da Ayrton, 1978”, or “To Angelo from Ayrton”.
Notable as a reference 16528, the timepiece in question is significant as one of the earliest of Rolex’s automatic gold chronograph Daytona’s.
Currently up for auction via Phillips, the listing includes an autographed picture of Ayrton Senna, an autographed helmet faceguard, a letter from Angelo Parrilla confirming the watch was gifted to him, photographs, and the original box, service guarantee, pouch, and product literature.
Bidding starts from $100,000 USD. See the complete listing here.
