In Omega’s storied history, there is no watch more famous than the Speedmaster. Dating back to 1957, when Omega debuted the original ref. CK2915 Speedmaster, this black dial chronograph can be counted among other legends of watch-dom including the Rolex Submariner or the Cartier Tank, with a strong case to be made that it’s a watch every collector should personally own at least once.

While its history is the subject of endless scholarship, the modern-day Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is a brilliant example from every angle, measuring 42mm in diameter (13.2mm thick) with a slightly asymmetric case shape and arriving paired with a matching bracelet in stainless steel.

Nicknamed the “Sapphire Sandwich” thanks to the sapphire crystal over the dial and caseback, it’s powered by the manually wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 (think 50 hours of power and 50m of water resistance).

No list of the best Omega watches would be complete without the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, and there’s a good reason why so many collectors are obsessed with this watch and its history. If you’re a serious Omega fan, this should be front-of-mind for consideration.

Another hugely popular watch within the Omega catalogue is the Seamaster Diver 300M: the Bienne-based watchmaker’s flagship, and another timepiece that’s been thoughtfully executed from every angle.

It boasts a dependable 300m of water resistance (complete with a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock for saturation divers), a scratch-proof ceramic diving bezel, and symmetrically integrated date window on the dial at 6 o’clock.

If you’re after a daily companion that won’t let you down, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M — with a pure white dial contrasting the black bezel — is a perfect choice.

Omega Seamaster Railmaster

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 38mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.7mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black textured
  • Water Resistance: 60m
  • Movement: Omega 8806
  • Power Reserve: 55 hours

Originally launched in 1957 alongside the Speedmaster chronograph, the Omega Seamaster Railmaster was designed for technicians working in proximity to magnetic fields. Thus the watch features strong antimagnetic protection — of up to 15,000 gauss for the movement.

Featuring a design inspired by the original Railmaster, and launched on the 60th anniversary of the first example, the dial features faux-aged Super-LumiNova for easy reading under various lighting conditions, while the steel bracelet completes the impression on the wrist.

It’s less flashy and modern than many of Omega’s contemporary watches — just how enthusiasts like it.

Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 45mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.7mm
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Titanium
  • Dial Colour: Black with LCD display
  • Water Resistance: 30m
  • Movement: Quartz Omega 5619
  • Power Reserve: 24 months

If you’ve ever wondered what the Omega Speedmaster might look like if it was designed for modern-day spaceflight, the Skywalker X-33 is exactly that. Crafted from titanium and featuring a black dial with an LCD display, this watch communicates mission-critical information in effective fashion.

Tested by the European Space Agency, this lightweight timepiece features a range of different functions including three different time zones, a chronograph, a timer, MET (‘Mission Elapsed Time’), PET (‘Phase Elapsed Time’), three alarms, and a perpetual calendar.

The movement is a thermo-regulated quartz calibre — temperature can significantly impact quartz oscillator’s timekeeping accuracy — with two years of battery life: ensuring you’ll keep good time, no matter whether you’re launching into a Zoom call or outer space.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep6000M

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 45.5mm
  • Case Thickness: 18.1mm
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Textile
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 6,000m
  • Movement: Omega 8912
  • Power Reserve: 60 hours

For the deep-diving enthusiast, Omega’s Seamaster Planet Ocean 6000M is the horological equivalent of the USS Nimitz, guaranteed to keep ticking at the crushing depths of 6km below the ocean’s surface.

As a result of this remarkable feat of engineering, the titanium case measures a hefty 18.1mm in thickness with a solid caseback and domed sapphire crystal covering the dial.

One of its unusual design elements is the “manta” style lugs which hold the textile NATO strap in place, meaning your bracelet or strap options are a little more limited than your typical Omega diver.

Omega Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” Anniversary Series

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.5mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Nylon with calf leather backing
  • Dial Colour: Blue and white
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Omega 3861
  • Power Reserve: 50 hours

The presence of the Peanuts character Snoopy on this watch may seem random, but does in fact come with a rich backstory.

The ‘Silver Snoopy’ award is a special prize given to NASA employees and contractors for outstanding performance in the realms of safety or mission success; and one such award was given to Omega in 1970 for the Speedmaster’s pivotal role during the Apollo 13 mission.

To commemorate this achievement, Omega launched the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” Anniversary Series in 2020, complete with an animated Snoopy in a lunar module passing between Earth and the moon on the caseback. It’s activated when the chronograph function is started and only appears from behind the moon after 14 seconds — the same timespan of the critical rocket burn NASA astronauts timed in order to course-correct and return to Earth safely.

In addition to the Snoopy character that moves with the chronograph hand, the earth on the caseback animation is connected to the running seconds of the watch, meaning it also makes one rotation every 60 seconds. While some might dismiss such a watch as kitsch or unserious, I think it’s the best execution of a playful animation in years.

Omega Seamaster “007 Edition” Diver 300M

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 13mm
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Bezel Material: Aluminium
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Titanium
  • Dial Colour: Brown
  • Water Resistance: 300m
  • Movement: Omega 8806
  • Power Reserve: 55 hours

Since Goldeneye in 1995, James Bond has worn an Omega Seamaster on-screen with an almost religious degree of frequency. To celebrate Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007, Omega worked directly with the acclaimed British actor on the design of this Omega Seamaster “007 Edition” Diver 300M.

With a case and Milanese-style bracelet that are both crafted from sandblasted Grade 2 titanium, it’s many people’s favourite Bond edition ever thanks to the aged brown dial details, lack of date window, and British MoD engraving on the caseback.

The actual watch Craig wore during the shooting of No Time To Die sold at auction in 2022 for £226,800 (AU$378,166), but if you don’t have a house deposit to spend on watches, this regular version is one of the coolest modern Seamasters we’ve seen.

Omega Speedmaster Caliber 321

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 39.7mm
  • Case Thickness: 13.7mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Omega 321
  • Power Reserve: 55 hours

Powered by the very same calibre worn by NASA astronauts on the moon, for serious Speedmaster enthusiasts the Omega Speedmaster Caliber 321 is a holy grail in modern collecting.

Featuring a historically faithful case size of 39.7mm and plenty of other easter egg design details (e.g. the ‘dot over 90’ bezel and vintage Omega logo), it fuses the best of vintage watch collecting with reliable modern build quality.

Visible through the exhibition caseback, the calibre 321 boasts a Breguet balance-spring, column wheel actuation, and a gold PVD coating on the bridges. Truly, a piece of history for the wrist.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 13.4mm
  • Case Material: Steel

  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 150m
  • Movement: Omega 8900
  • Power Reserve: 60 hours

If you’re after an everyday Omega that doesn’t have the heft of a diver or the complication of a chronograph, the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M is made for you.

With a clean black dial and well-placed date window at 6 o’clock, it’ll be comfortable on the eyes and even more so on the wrist — thanks to its tapered steel bracelet and ergonomic case profile.

Powered by the ever-reliable Omega 8900 with 60 hours of reserve power, you can’t go wrong with the latest generation of Aqua Terra.

Omega Speedmaster Chrono Chime

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 45mm
  • Case Thickness: 17.3mm
  • Case Material: Sedna gold
  • Bezel Material: Blue aventurine “Grand Feu” enamel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Sedna gold
  • Dial Colour: Blue aventurine “Grand Feu” enamel
  • Water Resistance: 30m
  • Movement: Omega 1932
  • Power Reserve: 60 hours

Just when you think you know what the Speedmaster is all about, let me introduce the Omega Speedmaster Chrono Chime: not just the most complicated watch ever made by the brand, but also the second most expensive in its history.

From a quick glance, it might look like a regular gold Speedmaster, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice the two gongs wrapping around the subdial at 9 o’clock (signaling that the watch is both a chronograph and minute repeater). You read that correctly: at the push of a button these Speedies can chime the time down to the minute, as well as measuring elapsed time.

The fully integrated movement features gold bridges that contribute a mighty 46.44g to the hefty 326g total weight of the watch, the dial and bezel are both made from blue aventurine “Grand Feu” enamel, and even the walnut presentation box has been carefully designed to enhance the resonance of the watch as it chimes.

It comes with a price tag to match, but as a pure expression of horological artistry, we felt obligated to include the Chrono Chime on our list.

Omega De Ville Trésor

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.1mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Alligator leather
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 30m
  • Movement: Omega 8910
  • Power Reserve: 72 hours

As a quick break from the ubiquity of the Speedmaster, the Omega De Ville Trésor is a properly elegant dress watch that only gets better the closer you look at it.

With an enchantingly patterned blue dial that resembles something between linen and denim, it’s kept nice and slim at just a hair over 10mm in thickness and arrives paired with a classy alligator leather strap (with a super supple calf leather backing).

As attractive as the dial is though, you could argue things only get better when you turn the watch over, exposing the manually wound calibre 8910 that features Omega’s signature radial spiral finish to the bridges. If you’re a tie-and-tailoring sort of guy, this is the watch you’ve been waiting for.

Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 43mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.8mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Silver
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Movement: Omega 9908
  • Power Reserve: 60 hours

Last but not least is one final Speedmaster, but this time with a few interesting details that make all the difference.

The Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope draws inspiration from the chronographs of the 1940s: featuring a “pulsation” counter originally designed for medical professionals who needed to manually measure patients’ heartbeats multiple times per day.

This modern interpretation features a 43mm case, two chronograph registers (typically the Speedmaster has three), and a series of snailed smaller counters for computing measurements.

With beautifully blued hands, a very nicely finished movement and a comfortable tapering bracelet, there’s a certainly worse way to blow your first pay-packet as a junior doctor.
