  • The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards are the “Oscars of the watch industry” with all the 2024 winners list revealed this week.
  • Highlights from the GPHG 2024 winners list include the IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Eternal Calendar, Piaget Polo 79, Chopard L.U.C Qualité Fleurier, and Berneron Mirage Sienna.
  • The ongoing goal of the GPHG is to “reward the most remarkable contemporary creations and promote the watchmaking art worldwide.”

Every year the luxury watch world gathers in Geneva to vote at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (‘GPHG’) awards on the very best new releases of the year.

In 2024, the winners showcased not only exceptional levels of technical sophistication, but also the ingenuity and passion you’d expect from players competing in a global multi-billion-dollar industry.

This year it was IWC Schaffhausen’s remarkable Portugieser Eternal Calendar that claimed the coveted top prize, the Aiguille d’Or. Cased in platinum and launched at Watches & Wonders 2024, the watch contains a moonphase mechanism that will be accurate for 45 million years, while the rest of the calendar indications promise accuracy until the year 3999. A worthy winner, indeed.

Piaget Polo 79

Other highlights from the GPHG 2024 winners list included the reissued Piaget Polo 79, which revived an iconic brand design in 200g of yellow gold, and the Chopard L.U.C Qualité Fleurier crafted from 80% recycled Lucent steel.

A personal favourite that claimed the Audacity prize was the Berneron Mirage Sienna. It has become one of the most celebrated watches of the year thanks to its asymmetrical case, dial, and movement: more reminiscent of a Salvador Dalí artwork than conventional wristwatch.
