Clocking in at a hefty 46.5mm in diametre, the IWC Big Pilot ‘Black Carbon’ Edition is a stealthy take on the huge hero piece from Swiss timekeepers, IWC Schaffhausen.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Edition ‘Black Carbon’ features a matte, marble-like carbon case, alongside a soft-iron case within for protection against magnetic fields. Under the metal, IWC’s signature 52110 calibre movement sports its usual seven-day power reserve, which is hidden by a dark black dial and strapped to a 22mm-wide black calfskin band.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Edition harks back to 1940 when IWC Schaffhausen produced 1,000 military navigators’ watches. The oversized “B-Uhr” timepieces had pocket watch movements that were converted to central seconds alongside large, distinctive dials that could be easily used and understood with gloves on.
IWC’s Big Pilot Black Carbon [Ref. IW506101] is limited to just 100 pieces and is available now exclusively at IWC.
