Over the last few years, Longines has bolstered the ranks of its A-list ambassadors, announcing partnerships with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet, and Jung Woo-Sunge. The newest member of the Longines family, however, is one of the most exciting watch ambassadors in years with the Swiss watchmaker welcoming Henry Cavill into the fold.
The white-hot Hollywood superstar is best known for his movie roles such as Man of Steel, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, as well as TV shows including the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. Some of Cavill’s most exciting upcoming projects include The Rosie Project, Highlander, and Warhammer 40k.
“In Henry, we recognise a real affinity with our brand’s values,” explains Longines CEO Matthias Breschan. “His sophistication, genuine warmth and multifaceted personality reflect what elegance means today.
“Whether commanding the screen in epic productions or sharing his passions for aviation and equestrianism, he maintains an authenticity and grace that makes him a clear embodiment of the Longines spirit.”
It’s a partnership that makes sense on plenty of levels, with Longines’ proud history of creating some of history’s most important pilot’s watches and Cavill’s enthusiasm for aviation. There’s also an understated quality to Cavill that’s shared with Longines’ designs, combining classicism with a touch of sophistication that’s immediately apparent in both Cavill and Longines.
Unsurprisingly, Cavill is equally excited about his newest partnership.
“What draws me to Longines is their understated elegance,” Cavill says. “True quality doesn’t need to announce itself. It’s evident in every detail and in every action.
“This is a philosophy, backed by generations of precision craftsmanship and artistry, that resonates deeply with my own values.”
He plans to visit the brand’s historic headquarters in Saint-Imier and for the images released alongside the announcement, is seen wearing the Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase ref. L4.815.4.78.2.
In the context of Cavill’s undeniably impressive physicality, this choice of timepiece – measuring a relatively modest 38.5mm – speaks to quiet confidence. And with an Australian RRP of $5,100, is plenty approachable for fans of the on-screen Superman.
We’ll need to wait a little longer to see exactly how Longines brings Henry Cavill into the universe of fine Swiss watchmaking, but this is a partnership we’re more than excited to see confirmed.
