  • The Longines Spirit Flyback chronograph collection returns this year with twin references executed in two-tone steel and gold.
  • One model features a green dial and bezel with yellow gold accents, while the other boasts a brown dial with warmly completing rose gold highlights.
  • Both watches are currently available from Longines boutiques and at the brand’s site, with an RRP of $10,150.

It had been 50 years between flyback chronograph watches for Longines, with the coveted complication making a return in 2023 to an enthusiastic response.

With a history that celebrates references such as the collectable 13ZN, it was a sensible move to see the flyback function make its way back into the watchmaker’s catalogue and in 2024, the Longines Spirit Flyback chronograph is clearly here to stay.

After launching in full steel with options as far as dial colour and strap choice, this latest series turns things up a notch with two new references in steel and gold. The reference with a gradient green dial and matching strap enjoys a bezel ring, chronograph pushers, crown in yellow gold, and the model with a warm brown dial has the same details executed in 5N rose gold.

While the precious metal accents elevate the rarified complication even further, the rest of the specifications remain consistent with the first Longines Spirit Flyback models. The cases measure 42mm in diameter (with a thickness of 17mm) and feature a clean blend of brushed and polished surfaces, while the domed sapphire crystal over the dial is nicely framed by a ceramic 60-minute bezel.

The two-register dial remains elegantly symmetrical without a date window and beneath the dial is the exclusive Longines column-wheel calibre L791.4. The movement is also a COSC-certified chronometer and is visible through the exhibition caseback that guarantees both watches 100m of water resistance.

After a successful launch in 2023, it’s exciting to see Longines turn further attention to one of its most historically important complications.

Both new references within the Longines Spirit Flyback chronograph collection are currently available at both Longines boutiques and on the brand’s website, each arriving with an Australian RRP of $10,150.
