For most watch manufacturers, heritage and tradition are the cornerstones of how they talk about themselves. For Roger Dubuis, however, these ideals are too focused on the rearview mirror to be appealing, instead, setting its sights firmly on the cutting edge that separates the current moment from the next. And when you first lay eyes on the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Countach DT/X, you can see why.
Produced as a collaboration with the Italian supercar manufacturer, this latest watch from Roger Dubuis is directly inspired by Lamborghini’s Countach LPI 800-4, which was released just two months ago. The announcement of the new Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 took the motoring world by storm, as a fresh take on one of the most iconic heritage designs from the famed automaker.
The new timepiece sits within the Roger Dubois x Lamborghini Squadra Corse collection, which now counts 11 watches in its family. But while the collection is exclusive, with a price tag to match, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Countach DT/X is by far the most expensive and rare, with just 8 pieces made of the US$720,000 (AU$960,000) watch.

Featuring a 47mm mineral composite fibre case and a titanium crown, caseback and clasp, the real star of this statement timepiece is the remarkably complicated movement that powers it. Containing the RD112 calibre (named as a nod to the 112 Countach LPI 800-4 units that Lamborghini produced), the movement features a V-shape 90° double flying tourbillon escapement, which contains 295 different components and offers 60 hours of power reserve.
All considered, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Countach DT/X is a pretty bonkers watch, jam-packed with seriously complicated watchmaking and more than a couple of design references that nod to the Lamborghini supercar. So if you’ve got the best part of a million dollars and you’re looking for a watch to add to the collection, the latest offering from Roger Dubuis will certainly turn heads.
