Baselworld is once again delivering the goods, as it does every March, with another colourful cracker from Swiss watchmaking powerhouse Rolex.
Just last week we showed you the only 1970’s vintage white gold Rolex Daytona believed to be in existence, scheduled for auction in May of this year for a cool $3 million CHF.
Now, jump forward nearly 50 years and Rolex have released an ‘Everose Gold’ variant of their outlandish ‘Rainbow’ Daytonas.
Set in a 40mm, 18-carat Everose gold case, the watch features 36 baguette-cut sapphires in a range of graduated colours and 11 baguette-cut coloured sapphires for the hour markers, while the remainder of the case boasts a total of 56 diamonds.
We can only assume that the ‘Everose’ title is a product of the proprietary rose gold alloy developed by Rolex that is resistant to fading. A pink gold alloy which has undergone a “crystallization” process to give it a shimmering finish encloses the 4130 calibre movement.
The Rainbow Daytona’s yellow and white gold variants are now selling for more than double on the secondary market, the former of which retails for approximately $86k USD. Needless to say, the ‘Everose’ offering will fetch a considerably larger fee.
