Diver’s watches are available a dime a dozen across the world’s big brands – and it’s obvious why.

Attempted by nearly every mainstream watchmaker in the industry, diver’s watches (or sports watches, depending on who you ask), are some of the most time-honoured and versatile examples of wristwatches on the market.

Which is what makes awards such as the one presented by the 2019 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève so significant.

Among the nineteen prizes awarded for horological achievements across the previous year of watchmaking, it was the Seiko Prospex LX Line Diver’s that was selected by a jury of 30 experts as the best diver’s watch of the year.

Sourcing its roots from the original 1968 Seiko Professional Diver’s design, the Prospex LX expresses a subtle nod to its heritage while sporting an advanced 5R Spring Drive calibre. This offers one-second a day precision alongside high levels of shock and temperature resistance.

Don’t let the brand name fool you, however, as the Seiko Prospex LX Line Diver’s (REF SNR029J1) will set you back a tidy AU$8,500.
