Swatch — perhaps more than any other Swiss watchmaker right now — has enjoyed an explosion in recent popularity, turning back the clock and reminding watch enthusiasts that fun watches should never have left the limelight.

One of the best examples of this is the Swatch COLORS OF JOY collection. The refreshing take on the popular BIG BOLD template promises to bring big vibes and plenty of colour with bright yellow, orange, purple, turquoise, navy, and pink models to choose from.

As its name suggests, the BIG BOLD range delivers huge wrist presence and innovation, with the addition of a biosourced bracelet to the BIG BOLD format. Not only do the integrated biosourced bracelets further emphasise the respective colours within the collection, but they make for an entirely different experience on the wrist, one that feels both comfortable and secure.

As you might expect from a collection called BIG BOLD, the oversized proportions measure a solid 47mm in diameter and 11.75mm in thickness, while the narrow bezel and expansive dial add to the captivating visual impression. However, it’s important to point out that while they look BIG, they don’t wear large thanks to the crown neatly tucked away at 2 o’clock, the lightweight case material, and the angled case flanks that taper to a slightly smaller rear diameter.

The 30m of water resistance found in the COLORS OF JOY collection isn’t quite enough to accompany you on your next dive trip, but it is enough for trips to the beach. Partially visible through the textured biosourced material dial is a quartz movement, which should only require a battery change every two or three years.

It is collections like the COLORS OF JOY range — as well as other hugely popular line-ups in the current catalogue — that have put Swatch back on the map as a destination brand for enthusiasts looking to add an element of fun to their collection. Additionally, the biosourced material the collection is made from speaks to a trend of sustainability within the watch industry that’s sure to talk to environmentally conscious enthusiasts out there.

All of this growth and success has translated into a lift for the entire Swiss watch industry, and as you’d expect, new Swatch boutiques are opening across Australia including a prime position on Melbourne’s famed Collins Street. The Collins Street boutique is the brand’s first flagship in Australia, joining stores in Pitt Street, Bondi Junction, Queen Street, Murray Street Mall, South Wharf, and the newly opened Westfield Chermside store.

Swatch COLORS OF JOY

Swatch has always been good at reflecting the cultural zeitgeist, but over the last couple of years, their growth has reached new levels thanks to pop culture partnerships, collaborations, and unforgettable collections. In a watch industry that can sometimes take itself very seriously, the reinvigoration of fun couldn’t have come at a better time.
