The world of motorsports and luxury watches has crossed many times before, so it was perhaps expected that a collaboration of this magnitude would pop up eventually. Hot on the heels of our recent TAG Heuer x Porsche shoot, is a gorgeous new timepiece birthed from the newly minted (and finally official) partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche – the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition 44mm.
Powered by a manufacture Heuer 02 automatic movement, with an 80-hour power reserve and a Porsche-inspired oscillating mass, the high-octane timepiece takes TAG Heuer’s historic Carrera line even deeper into the world of motorsports and builds on the already strong roots the name has with both brands.
The watch is enclosed in a 44mm polished and finely brushed steel case, with Porsche’s engraved inscription in red on the ceramic bezel, elegantly placed amongst a tachymeter scale. The dial draws the eye inwards with an asphalt effect, specially designed for this watch as a perfectly textured expression of a racetrack. The arabic numerals have been included to suggest the numbers on the dashboard of a fine Porsche automobile, maintaining perfect legibility at night thanks to the generous use of Super-LumiNova.
With a black ‘azurage’ hour, minute and second chronograph counters at 9, 3 and 6 o’clock, respectively, the display is a bold and beautiful thing to behold. The house and minute counters both feature a rhodium plated polished hand with a red tip, while the date window has an indicator blended with the second chronograph counter at 6 o’clock.
With a water resistance up to 100m, the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition comes with a soft strap on a luxurious calf leather and innovative stitching that further mirrors Porsche by referencing the interior of a car.
Even the packaging has been considered to seamlessly align with the partnership, with each watch delivered in a bespoke black watch box featuring the logos of TAG Heuer and Porsche in white. A travel pouch has been included for wearers, sporting a bright red interior.
While the watch marks the beginning of this partnership, plenty is in store from this seamless partnership, including more from the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, which debuted at the 2019 Ad Diriyah ePrix.
